With the support of the entire Latvian nation the Garden of Destiny is becoming a reality on an island in Koknese on the Daugava. It is a place where the past, the present and the future of the people as well as the nation merge...merge to give solace to the past, strength to the present and inspiration to follow your dream in the future. Just as generations left the Statue of Freedom to us, we will leave the Garden of Destiny as our legacy.
Shunmyo Masuno – a landscape artist from Japan – has visualized the Garden of Destiny. His work was selected as the best of 207 projects by an international jury. Architects Andris Kronbergs and Raimonds Saulitis along with „Design bureau ARHIS”, you, your friends and relatives and the people of Latvia are all helping to make this dream a reality.

Ulvis Alberts will be exhibiting thirty of his most iconic B&W images for the very first time in the mid-west. Many of the images in this exhibit are vintage silver-gelatin,signed and numbered prints in an edition of 10.
Ulvis Alberts 362 page book of photographs "Camera as Passport" (1966-2008) will be available at the Icebox Gallery and he will happily sign it for you.

"BOOK SOUP" at 8818 West Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood has been at its location for over 30 years. It is known for its avant-garde titles and a large selection of photography books. Right on the world famous"Sunset Strip," It is a unique bookstore in a world of sterile shopping mall outlets.
Tina Hendrix, daughter of Leon Hendrix, the brother of Jimi Hendrix,organized her 2nd, annual music festival in Seattle on 18 September 2011.

About 15 musicians were featured at the event including Jimi impersonator
and singer/guitarist, Randy Hansen. The outdoor festival also included
Leon Hendrix and a number of music students from the school.
Ulvis Alberts donated several of his books ("Camera as Passport" 1966-2008)
and an original photograph of Jimi Hendrix backstage (Seattle 1968)
to Tina's school. Paul Allen's Experience Music Project has
the now classic Hendrix photographs on display at the Seattle center museum.

On 13 – 17 July, almost 8,000 sq. m area of the Lithuanian Exhibition and Convension Centre LITEXPO (More wwwartvilnius.com ) will be occupied by galleries from Lithuania, neighbouring countries and other countries of the world. The main objective of ARTVILNIUS’11 is to present a broad and representative panorama of contemporary art galleries, introduce the best artists and their works while maintaining a high quality of art.
POKER LEGENDS ON TV
"Ulvis Alberts,photographer sold his black and white poker photographs from the late 1970's to season 7 of the television broadcast of HIGH STAKES POKER (2011).
This series of 13 one hour episodes shows a "montage" of Alberts photographs in one minute segments on each show under POKER LEGENDS. Such players as Doyle Brunson, Stu Ungar,"Sailor" Roberts,Jack "Treetop" Straus and Betty Carey, the first high stakes woman player are featured.
HIGH STAKES POKER is filmed at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas and broadcast on the GAMES Channel in the US and Canada. The draw of viewers to the show is cash bets in the hundreds of thousands by "old school" pros "heads up" with up and coming poker players from on-line, internet poker. Photographer,Ulvis Alberts (Birkenfelds gallery/Riga) is participating in a campaign for breast cancer rehabilitation, organized by SAMSUNG in the Baltic States of Estonia,Latvia and Lithuania. SAMSUNG a leader
in electronics manufacturing is working with "Dzivibas koks" ("The tree of life") organization in Latvia.
Everyone can support breast cancer rehabilitation as Ulvis Alberts is among several artists whose photographs can be downloaded to a cell phone or a computer for as little as 1 Euro at www.ribbon.lv ("Lejupielade ekrantapetes"). The campaign will continue till 25 February 2011.

The SAMSUNG company in September 2010 purchased the rights to five ULVIS ALBERTS photographs in their advertising campaign for SAMSUNG 3D LED TV 9000 series.
The demonstration is for sales in LATVIA, LITHUANIA and ESTONIA. The Birkenfelds gallery represents Mr. Ulvis Alberts photography sales in Europe

Ulvis Alberts photography book "POKER FACE" (1977-1981) was sold for a record breaking price of $2,500US. This rare and out of print hardcover copy, signed by the photographer (#137/500) was sold by
Natalie Galustian Rare Books in London. (www.nataliegalustian.com) Alberts' oversized book, in black and white photographs, covers some of the first years of the World Series of Poker at Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas.
His current photography book on poker "POKER FACE 2" is still available for sale as a signed, boxed set from the photographer at his e-mail address of amberCprod@aol.com

New Project - PHOTOICON
The "Golden Apple" awards 2009 awarded first prize to Ulvis Alberts' photography book "Camera As Passport"(1966-2008). The selection was made from 58 fine art books and calendars from 23 publishers in Latvia.
The award was given on 14 April 2010, at a ceremony held in the "small guild" of the Latvian Academy of Science in Riga, by the "Book Publishers Association" who recognized the best art books published the previous year.
Contributors to "Camera As Passport" were Janis Pavloskis, computer artist; "Preses nams" printing house; and the"Poligrafijas infocentrs."
In May, 2010 nominated books will participate in a Baltic States art competition and later will be exhibited and sold in Germany at the Frankfurt and Leipcigas book faires. Back to the book...

Photographer, Antanas Sutkus made it easy for me to photograph him at his home in Vilnius,Lithuania. I asked him to lay down on his couch with a large Antanas' photograph of the writer, Jean-Paul Sartre, on the wall.
"Now Antanas," I asked, "close your eyes." I took several frames on my old, motorized Nikon. "Now open your eyes." Click,click....
"Thank you," I finally said. "That was great!"
And in December 2009, just before Christmas, those were the best photographs I took all year.
